In most cases, the need for a home repair is obvious. A ceiling that leaks right on top of you or a bathtub that won’t drain gets your attention immediately. But a far less obvious problem can cause more damage — and far more often goes unchecked.

“We deal a lot with rotting brick,” says George Rood, co-owner of George Rood Masonry. “All around Odessa, people have problems with it. By the time they finally realize it, the problem has been going on for 10 years.”

Frequently, homeowners won’t notice areas of rotting brick until they try to sell the house. Then, when the damage is noticed, the real estate agent often recommends that the homeowner call George Rood Masonry.  However, Rood said, there is good reason to repair the damage now — long before you try to sell the home.

“The rotting areas of the brick are like having an open window in your home,” Rood said. “Holding down energy use, lowering your utility bills and keeping your home comfortable are all good reasons to keep your brickwork in repair.” Often, the repair costs less and takes less time than the customer imagined.

“Many customers tell me, ‘If I’d known it was this easy and that you could do it, I would have called you years ago,’” Rood said. And new co-owner, Jose Martinez knows that preventative care always costs less in the long run.

Co-owner, Jose Martinez takes the time to sit down with you and discuss layouts and floor plans. He knows exactly what you need before he begins the project.

“We go out to customers’ homes, help lay out the job, show them all their possible options and give them free estimates,” Rood and Martinez said.

A hands-on boss, Martinez can usually be found working right alongside his crew.“If I’m right there, I can be sure the job will be done right,” he said.

Rood has been repairing brickwork and building fences for 45 years, 32 of those years in this area. Maritnez has 12 years of masonry under his belt.

Many years ago, George started a trend in fence building that has kept up till this day. Columns built into the fences about every 20 feet ensure fences that are strong, sturdy and built to last.

“Before I came here and started doing it, no one had really used columns before,” Rood said. “The columns keep the fences from cracking and falling over.”

If you need an experienced mason who offers quality work at an affordable price call George Rood Masonry at (432) 362-1030.

“Winter is here and there’s loss of heat through the rotting areas of the brick.” George Rood, Co-Owner.
