WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Victory would put Lady Falcons in league lead
UTPB and Newman (Kan.) will lock horns at noon today in Wichita, Kan., in a battle for women’s basketball supremacy in the Heartland Conference.
The Lady Falcons (18-6 overall, 8-2 conference) and Jets (19-5, 8-2) are tied for first place and both have one conference game remaining after today. Newman won 78-62 when the teams first meet Jan. 19 in Odessa.
UTPB has won seven games in a row since that loss and is coming off a 106-98 win at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday. Teisha King scored a game-high 26 points in that game and is averaging 11.2 points per game for the season.
Newman, after losing three straight games earlier this month, has bounced back with consecutive 67-54 wins against Texas A&M International and St. Edward’s. Satoria Bell and Tasha Cannon lead the Jets and the conference with 23.3 and 16.6 points per game, respectively, and Cannon also is the league’s leading rebounder with 9.7 per game.
