WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Lady Falcons overcome halftime deficit, beat St. Mary's
SAN ANTONIO The UTPB women’s basketball team defeated St. Mary’s 60-57 thanks to a quartet of double-digit scorers Thursday night at Bill Greehey Arena.
UTPB’s Taniqua Ards scored 12 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the field, while teammates Teisha King, Tammy Acosta and Jessi Cowden chipped in 12, 10 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lady Falcons (14-6 overall, 5-2 Heartland Conference) trailed 30-27 at halftime, but overcame the deficit and took the lead with a 16-12 run capped by a three-point play by King.
UTPB took a 43-42 lead after King made a free throw with 10:45 left and increased their lead to seven at one point.
The Lady Rattlers had three players — Kathryn Galindo (15 points), DeAnna Patterson (12) and Felicia Jacobs (11) — score in double figures.
St. Mary’s (9-14, 4-3) shot 39 percent from the field and made 87 percent (14-of-16) of its free throws.
