MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UTPB's streak ended by Newman
WICHITA, KAN. The UTPB men’s basketball team committed 14 second-half turnovers and saw its six-game winning streak snapped Saturday with a 57-43 loss at Newman.
The Falcons (13-13 overall, 6-6 Heartland Conference) fell into fifth place, a half-game behind Arkansas-Fort Smith (14-13, 7-6), with two regular-season games remaining. Newman (17-8, 9-4) moved into a second-place tie with St. Mary’s (16-8, 9-4), which lost to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday.
Branden Harrison led UTPB with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Erik Martin scored eight points but also committed eight turnovers. Chuck Coley scored a game-high 15 points for Newman, which also got 13 points from Shamar Acuay and 10 from Eric Saunders.
