COLLEGE SOFTBALL: UTPB suffers two losses
SAN ANTONIO UTPB lost two softball games Friday for the second day in a row, falling 3-1 against Cameron and 13-0 against Texas A&M-Kingsville at the St. Mary’s Division II Collegiate Classic.
The Lady Falcons (0-4) scored in the bottom of the first inning against Cameron as Whitney Kuhrt reached on a throwing error, stole second base and came around to score on singles by Leslie Ericson and Chelsey Morgan. But Cameron held UTPB scoreless the rest of the way and went ahead with two runs in the seventh.
In the second game, which lasted only five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule, Texas A&M-Kingsville raced out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and finished with 18 hits. Six Javelinas players recorded at least two hits apiece, and nine-hole hitter Jaeleen Castro finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
UTPB finishes the tournament today with a noon game against Abilene Christian and a 2 p.m. matchup against Tarleton State.
