MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UTPB defeats St. Mary's, wins third straight conference game

SAN ANTONIO Erik Martin scored a game-high 15 points and led the UTPB men’s basketball team to a 41-38 victory over St. Mary’s Thursday at Bill Greehey Arena.

The Falcons (9-12 overall, 3-5 Heartland Conference) recorded their third straight conference win and second win in a row on the road. They also avenged an 83-68 loss at home against the Rattlers on Jan. 7.

Ke’Andre Derrick and Madison Turner chipped in nine points apiece on a night UTPB shot 40 percent (15-of-38) from the field. The Falcons shot 60 percent (6-of-10) from the 3-point line and were 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Daryell Taylor and Lamb Autrey led the Rattlers (12-7, 5-3), scoring nine and eight points, respectively. St. Mary’s also was perfect from the free-throw line, making 7-of-7 shots, but was only 17 percent (3-of-17) from beyond the arc.

The Falcons will remain on the road, traveling to Laredo to play against Texas A&M International at 2 p.m. Saturday.
