CANYON Tammy Acosta scored 27 points and Miesha Blackshear added 17 Friday as the UTPB women’s basketball team knocked off Angelo State 75-69 in the West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic at the First United Bank Center.

UTPB (2-4) earned its first victory of the season against an NCAA Division II opponent and beat Angelo State (3-2) for the first time in women’s basketball after two previous losses during the 2007-08 season.

The Rambelles cut the lead to 59-58 with 6:19 led to play on a 3-pointer by Ashley James, but UTPB responded with a 3-pointer by Blackshear and a 3-point play by Acosta to quell the momentum.
