College basketball: UTPB men lead early but can't hold on

SAN ANGELO The UTPB men’s basketball team led at halftime before falling 48-40 to Angelo State University in the nonconference NCAA Division II game before 820 at the Junell Center.

In the season opener for both teams, UTPB led 23-19 at halftime but made only six field goals in the second half on just 13 attempts.

The Falcons were led by 11 points from Elijah Jordan while Austin Williams added seven points.

UTPB also got four points and a team-high seven rebounds from Charles Harper.

Angelo State got 10 points and 18 rebounds from Johnny Barnes in addition to 12 points from LaMarshall Corbett.

The Falcons are off until playing Nov. 24 at NCAA Division I program Texas-Arlington.
