College basketball: UTPB men pick up Heartland win on road

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. Art Garcia scored his only four points in the closing 3 1/2 minutes to help the UTPB men’s basketball team defeat Lincoln University 89-73 in a Heartland Conference game Monday night.

Charles Harper’s two free throws gave UTPB a 72-52 lead with 9 minutes, 31 seconds remaining, but Lincoln closed to within 80-71 with 3:09 to play. Garcia sandwiched a jumper and a layup around a 3-pointer by Luther Thomas and Chris Dunlop made two free throws to give the Falcons an 89-71 lead with 34 seconds left.

Quintan Lipkins had 25 points, six rebounds and six assists for UTPB (4-10 overall, 3-1 conference).

Lipkins made 5-of-11 3-point shots.

Robert Harris had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Harper had 13 points and 13 rebounds for UTPB, which led 37-36 at halftime.

Richard Williams scored 19 points for Lincoln (5-10, 1-3).
