College golf: Permian graduate leads Division II regional after the first day
Comments 0 | Recommend 0OMAHA, Neb. Permian graduate Raelyn Smith fired a 1-over-par 73 Monday in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's West Regional Golf Tournament at Ironwood Golf and Country Club to take a one-stroke lead into today's second round.
Playing as an individual for Angelo State University, Smith finished with two birdies and three bogeys on her card and leads Carla Cooper of Tarleton State (74), with Raelynn Farthing of Central Oklahoma, Erin Ommen of Nebraska-Omaha and Kaitlin Parker of Western Washington University all tied for third at 5-over par.
The top three teams and top three individuals all qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships May 13-16 at Findlay University, in Findlay, Ohio.
