Texas League: RockHounds batter Frisco pitching in blowout

MIDLAND Carlos Hernandez looked primed to cruise to a victory over Texas-League-South-Division-leading Frisco after the first inning, when the Midland RockHounds spotted him a seven-run lead.

But that didn’t last long.

By the end of the fifth inning, Hernandez had given away his lead, but the RockHounds put together another big inning to beat the RoughRiders 14-9.

The RockHounds jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs on six hits, including a three-run double by Alex Valdez, who finished 3-for-5 on the night with two runs scored and a stolen base.

In the third inning, the RoughRiders got on the board with an RBI double by Emerson Frostad and a sacrifice fly by Andy Jenkins.

Then in the fifth, Frisco scored five more runs to tie up the game, and take Hernandez out of the decision.

Hernandez went five innings, and gave up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Midland came back in the sixth and scored another six runs, including three on a triple by Corey Brown.

Justin Friend picked up the win, throwing the sixth inning and giving up no runs on one hit.

Mickey Storey went 1 2/3 innings, and gave up two runs (both unearned) on three hits and two walks and left the game with the bases loaded. Justin Souza came in to get out of the jam and picked up the save.

Frostad finished a home run shy of the cycle, going 3-for-6 with two RBIs, a run scored and two strikeouts.

Midland is now one game behind the RoughRiders for the second half lead in the South Division. These two teams will play each other 11 more times this season, including at 6:30 p.m. today at Citibank Ballpark.
