College football: Texas Tech's Batch injured in practice

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

LUBBOCK Midland High graduate Baron Batch, Texas Tech’s leading rusher last year, injured his left arm in practice and it isn’t known how long he’ll be sidelined.

Tech spokesman Blayne Beal says the junior running back from Midland hurt the arm Wednesday.

Last season, Batch led the team in rushing with 771 yards and seven touchdowns on 113 carries. He also caught 45 passes for 449 yards and his 1,207 all-purpose yards were second only to Michael Crabtree’s 1,216.

The junior, who was getting the most carries in the Red Raiders’ practice, also is a preseason candidate for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation’s top running back.
