COLLEGE SOFTBALL: UTPB loses first two games
SAN ANTONIO The UTPB softball team opened its season Thursday with a pair of losses in the St. Mary’s NCAA Division II Classic.
The Lady Falcons (0-2) lost 5-4 to Incarnate Word in a nine-inning game and could not recover in the second contest, losing 4-1 to Eastern New Mexico.
UTPB’s Thursday opponents combined for a 43-61 overall record last year.
Junior Leslianne Ericson recorded a home run for the Lady Falcons in the first game, while senior Tieifa Duberry paced the team with two hits, including one double, against Eastern New Mexico.
Sophomore pitcher Desiree Valero recorded losses in both games.
UTPB will play games against Cameron (10 a.m.) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (noon) today.
The St. Mary’s Tournament concludes Saturday.
