College soccer: UTPB plays at home Sunday

The UTPB men’s soccer team plays host to St. Mary’s at 3:30 p.m. today in a Heartland Conference game at Falcon Field.

The Falcons (6-8 overall, 4-3 conference) are coming off a 2-1 nonconference loss at No. 21 West Texas A&M on Wednesday. Sergio Soto scored UTPB’s lone goal in that game off an assist from Luis Paiva.

St. Mary’s (6-7, 3-3) beat UTPB in an earlier meeting this season in San Antonio and recently beat Incarnate Word. However, the Rattlers are coming off a 3-2 loss Friday night at Newman University in Wichita, Kan.

Big chance

The UTPB Lady Falcons women’s soccer team will attempt to end a two-game losing streak when they host Newman University (Kan.) at 1 p.m. today at Falcon Field in a Heartland Conference game.

The Lady Falcons (3-7-2 overall, 1-4 conference) have been shut out in their last two games against Incarnate Word (2-0, Oct. 6) and Dallas Baptist (3-0, Oct. 9).

Goalkeeper Stephanie Ward who won the Heartland Conference’s defensive player of the week award last week for UTPB.

Newman (3-6-3, 0-2-3) is coming off a 2-2 tie against Dallas Baptist on Tuesday.
