College rodeo: Johnston paces OC rodeo effort
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SNYDER Cinnamon Johnston turned in Odessa College's top performance at the Western Texas College NIRA Rodeo over the weekend, tying for first place in goat tying at Scurry County Coliseum.
Johnson had a run of 7.5 second in the long go to tie for third place and qualify for the finals. Her 7.7-second run in the short go shared first place, and here 15.2 average matched the time of Weatherford College's Kody Engle.
Johnson moved to No. 13 in the NIRA Southwest Region season standings with 140 points.
Colter Harden remained third in the regional bareback standings by finishing third with an average score of 142. Harden was second in the long go with a 74 and fifth in the short go with a 68.
Also scoring points for OC were bull riders Aaron Lide and Stetson Lewis. Lide had a 79-point ride in the long go for second place, while Lewis was fifth with a 75. Both were bucked off in the short go, which saw just one scoring ride, but finished third and fifth, respectively, in the average.
Bareback rider Cory Baudoin and steer wrestler Carson Yates both qualified for the short go, but had not mark in the finals to finish out of the points. Baudoin was eighth in the long go, but missed out on his second ride. Yates was seventh in the long go at 5.3 seconds, but had his steer cut in front in the finals.
The OC women's team received solid efforts in breakaway roping, but it took 2.3 seconds or faster to make the short go. Dani McGuire (2.4), Rikki Jones (2.9) and Kyla Yarborough (3.0) all missed qualifying by less than a second, while Maria Thornton ran 2.0 seconds only to be penalized 10 seconds for breaking the barrier.
