Pro baseball: Guzman leads 'Hounds to victory

MIDLAND Jesus Guzman had two run-scoring singles and a solo home run to help the Midland RockHounds beat the Frisco RoughRiders 4-1 on Monday night in a Texas League baseball game at Citibank Ballpark.

Guzman's single in the first drove in Todd Donovan, who had led off with a double.

Guzman's homer came with two outs in the third and put Midland ahead 2-0.

Frisco made it 2-1 in the fifth on Dustin Majewski's run-scoring double, but Nick Blasi had a run-scoring single in the sixth, and Guzman's second run-scoring single made it 4-1 in the seventh.

Midland starter Vincent Mazzaro (4-2) allowed one run and three hits in six innings, and he struck out eight. Jay Marshall struck out two in two innings, and Andrew Carignan allowed one hit in the ninth to pick up his third save.

Frisco starter Michael Schlact (1-3) allowed three runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings.

Midland and Frisco play the second contest in the four-game series at 6:30 p.m. today at Citibank Ballpark.
