Briefs: RockHounds / Jackalopes
Comments 0 | Recommend 0>> BASEBALL -- RockHounds win in 10: In Springfield, Mo., Javier Herrera hit a broken-bat RBI infield single with the bases loaded in the top of the 10th inning to give the Midland RockHounds an 8-7 win over the Springfield Cardinals on Tuesday night in a Texas League baseball game.
Midland's Jon Zeringue snapped an 0-for-17 slump with a two-run homer to tie the score at 7-7 in the ninth.
Springfield broke a 5-5 tie when Allen Craig walked with the bases loaded in the seventh and Matt Pagnozzi drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt in the eighth.
Midland closer Andrew Carignan (3-2) struck out five and did not allow a hit or walk in the 2 2-3 innings.
Midland scored in the first on a homer by Aaron Cunningham, but Springfield rallied for a a 5-1 lead after three innings behind two home runs by Craig and an RBI single by Pagnozzi.
Cunningham hit his second home run of the game, this one a two-run shot, in the fourth inning to make it 5-3. Midland used a sacrifice fly by Justin Sellers in the fourth and a home run by Tommy Everidge in the fifth to tie the game.

>> HOCKEY -- Jackalopes sign two: The Odessa Jackalopes on Tuesday signed center Mike MacDonald and goaltender Kevin Druce to contracts for the 2008-09 Central Hockey League season.
MacDonald had 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points in his rookie season with Odessa in the 2007-08 season. He also was the team's top penalty killer.
Druce played for the Twin City Cyclones in Winston-Salem, N.C., in the Southern Professional Hockey League last season. He had a 10-12-2 record and a 3.86 goals-against average in 28 games.
