NORTH AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE: Jacks lose to Mustangs

For the second time in as many days, the Odessa Jackalopes lost a 4-1 game to the New Mexico Mustangs on Sunday at the Santa Ana Star Center.

The Jackalopes (17-24-5) came into the weekend series with a 5-1 record against the Mustangs (16-28-3) this season; however, New Mexico took two of three games in the weekend series.

In all three games the Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Odessa’s Tyler Poulsen scored an unassisted, short-handed goal at 3:48 of the final period to pull the Jackalopes within a goal. It was Poulsen’s 10th goal of the season.

Adam Chapie scored a power-play goal at 9:12 of the third to push New Mexico’s lead back to two goals. The Mustangs finished 2-for-6 on the power play while Odessa was 0-for-3.

Odessa remains in fifth place in the North American Hockey League’s South Division with 39 points. Corpus Christi is six points in front of the Jackalopes for the division’s fourth and final playoff spot.
