NORTH AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE: Jacks fall

The Odessa Jackalopes came up short in their attempt to sweep a three-game series at New Mexico, falling 6-3 Sunday at the Santa Ana Star Center.

Adam Chapie finished with a goal and four assists for the Mustangs while teammates Evan Johnston and Tate Rusk netted two goals apiece.

The game also concluded the Jackalopes’ seven-game road trip that coincided with the SandHills Stock Show and Rodeo at Ector County Coliseum. Odessa (14-19-5) went 3-3-1 on the road swing and sits in fifth place in the NAHL South Division standings. The Jackalopes trailing Corpus Christi for the fourth and final playoff spot by six points.

The Mustangs (13-25-2) remain in the South Division cellar.

New Mexico made the most of its power-play chances, finishing 3-for-6 with the man advantage.

Odessa’s Connor Hellebuyck finished with 30 save and suffered the loss.

Tyler Cayemberg scored a goal and added an assist for the Jackalopes while Lawrence Cornellier added a pair of assists.

The Jackalopes play host to Amarillo, the league’s top team with 67 points, at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
