Cross country: Monahans girls, Andrews boys win 3-3A team titles
MONAHANS The host Monahans girls and Andrews boys won the team titles Wednesday in the District 3-3A Cross Country Championships at Ward County Golf Course.
In the boys side of the meet, sophomore Lucas Marquez won the individual crown and helped the Mustangs score 29 points. Joe Haygood and Xavier Hernandez finished fourth and fifth while Abraham Plancarte was seventh.
Monahans was second and Brownfield finished third to earn trips to the Region I-3A Championships.
In the girls meet, Monahans won with 28 points behind a second-place showing by Abby Marquez, a fourth-place finish by Michelle Azuaje and a sixth-place effort from Margie Vidana.
Andrews freshman Stormy Sandell won the individual girls title, while Andrews and Seminole also qualified for regionals in the team race.

Lyndi Shackelford won the team title for the Lady Cats and was joined in the top 10 by Taryn Curtis, who was fourth. McCamey also advanced as the third-place girls team behind a second-place run by Jessica Esperanza, while Marfa advanced as the runner-up boys team.
Meanwhile, Sanderson’s boys and girls swept the District 2-1A Championships at Balmorhea State Park. In the girls meet, Sanderson edged Rankin by one point for the team title while in the boys meet Fort Davis qualified for Region I-1A Championships as the third-place team.
Balmorhea head coach Doug Maynard thanked all the volunteers and other coaches for helping run the 2-1A meet smoothly.
