Pro baseball: Zeringue sparks Midland’s win
Comments 0 | Recommend 0MIDLAND Outfielder Jon Zeringue hit solo home runs in the second and third innings to help the Midland RockHounds beat the Frisco RoughRiders 8-4 in a Texas League baseball game on Tuesday night at Citibank Ballpark.
Midland starter Trevor Cahill (5-1), making his final home start before leaving for the 2008 Summer Olympics, gave up five hits and three runs in five innings. He struck out six.
Zeringue hit a two-out homer to left on an 0-2 pitch from Frisco starter Michael Schlact to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning. Todd Donovan's run-scoring single up the middle gave Midland a 2-1 lead, Frank Martinez followed with a run-scoring single and Tommy Everidge had a three-double to make it 6-1.
Zeringue hit another solo home run - this one with one out - in the third inning.
Andrew Bailey and Chris Farley each worked two innings in relief for Midland.
Frisco scored twice in the first, but Midland cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning.
The teams will continue their three-game series at 7 p.m. today.
