Pro baseball: Everidge, Doolittle pace RockHounds

SAN ANTONIO Tommy Everidge had three hits and five RBIs to lead the Midland RockHounds past the San Antonio Missions 9-6 in a Texas League baseball game on Sunday night.

Sean Doolittle had two hits and three RBIs for Midland, which earned a split in the four-game series.

Everidge hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give Midland a 3-0 lead, and he had run-scoring single and Doolittle had a two-run double in the third to give Midland a 6-2 lead.

Everidge, Jon Zeringue and Doolittle had consecutive run-scoring singles in the fourth to help Midland build a 9-2 cushion.

Midland starter James Simmons (5-4) allowed 11 hits and six runs - all earned - in 5 1-3 innings. Simmons struck out six.

David Shafer allowed two hits in 2 2-3 innings for Midland, while Andrew Carignan retired San Antonio in order in the ninth to get his 12th save.

Midland plays Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. today in the first game of a four-game series at Citibank Ballpark in Midland.
