Texas League baseball: RockHounds rally to win last home game

MIDLAND A wild pitch and two fielding errors brought home all of the Midland RockHounds’ runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday night, and they beat Frisco 3-2 in their last home game of the season at Citibank Ballpark.

“It’s always nice to end, especially a long year like this, with a win in front of the home crowd,” said RockHounds starting pitcher Anthony Capra, whose team concludes the season with a seven-game road trip beginning today in San Antonio.

The RoughRiders (34-29 Texas League second half) broke a scoreless tie with a pair of two-out runs in the top of the eighth against Midland reliever Jared Lansford, but the RockHounds (33-30) put together a two-out rally of their own in the bottom of the inning. The first run scored on a wild pitch by Frisco reliever Richard Bleier, and the tying run came across when Stephen Parker reached on an error by shortstop Renny Osuna. Parker came all the way around when RoughRiders right fielder Mitch Holligoss misplayed a single by Michael Spina.

Capra, a 24-year-old left-hander, dueled with Frisco right-hander Carlos Pimental for the first seven innings. Capra allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six, and 11 of the other 15 outs he recorded were ground balls.

“I think that’s the best we’ve seen him this season,” RockHounds manager Steve Scarsone said. “I thought he was outstanding.”
