MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Falcons look to continue hot streak
The UTPB men’s basketball team will go for its seventh straight victory, and fifth in a row on the road, when it takes on Newman (Kan.) at 2 p.m. today in Wichita, Kan.
The Falcons (13-12 overall, 6-5 conference) have surged into fourth place and trail the third-place Jets (16-8, 8-4) by 1.5 games. The top four teams in the final regular-season standings qualify for the conference’s postseason tournament.
UTPB, which lost 68-63 against Newman on Jan. 19 in Odessa, is coming off a 66-64 win at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday. Louis Crane scored a game-high 17 points for the Falcons and made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining.
The Jets, who snapped a four-game losing streak with Thursday’s 69-55 win at home against St. Edward’s, are led by Eric Saunders. The senior point guard averages 11.1 points and 3.7 assists per game.
