Golf: Permian in the hunt of West Texas Boys Classic

Led by True Graves and Micah Rodgers, the Permian boys golf team is tied for second at the West Texas Boys Classic.

Graves shot a 74 and Rodgers a 75 in the first round of the tournament Friday at the Odessa Country Club's Links Course.

The final round will be today at Ratliff Ranch, marking the first time a high school tournament will be held at the course since it reopened this summer.

The Panthers are tied with El Paso Coronado with 306 strokes, while El Paso Hanks is winning the tournament at 298.

Midland Lee is in sixth with 315 and Midland High's first team is seventh with 318. Permian's second team, led by former San Angelo Central golfer Jacoby Chappa's 79, is in ninth with 324. Odessa High's first team is in a tie for 14th with 338.

El Paso Hanks' Nick Chacon is winning the medalist title with 71, while Midland High's Martin Board is second with 72.
