High school football: Crane undefeated on first day on 7-on-7 tournament

COLLEGE STATION Last year Crane finished second at the state 7-on-7 tournament, and this year's team is off to a good start.

Crane, one of four unbeaten teams Thursday, edged defending champion Celina 34-33 in pool play. Crane also beat Rockdale 45-40 and knocked off La Villa 34-0.

Celina used a 48-12 win over Waco Reicher to remain in contention after the first day of the 7-on-7 state championship.

Diboll and Navasota, also Class 3A teams, swept their pools and opened the single-elimination bracket play with victories. Diboll defeated Kirbyville in overtime, 34-28. Navasota beat La Villa, 47-14.

Houston Second Baptist, a private school, was 3-0 in its four-team pool, but lost to Class 2A New Waverly 35-31 in the opening round of bracket play.
