College track: Covington brings home pair of eighths
Comments 0 | Recommend 0WALNUT, CALIF. Richard Covington earned All-American honors twice Saturday during the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mt. San Antonio College's Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Covington, a 2005 Monahans High School graduate, earned the All-American honors as a member of two Angelo State University relay teams that finished eighth at the national meet.
Covington, Raymond Hickem, Brian Holik and Jeremy Jones helped ASU's 4x100 relay take eighth with a time of 41.30 seconds.
The same four athletes ran the 4x400 relay to conclude the meet and took eighth in 3:13.05.
Covington, Hickem and Jones all are juniors, and Holik is a freshman. Covington also earned All-American honors as a freshman in 2006 for a sixth-place finish in the 4x400 relay.
If all four athletes return next season, they will have the opportunity to compete at the national meet at their home facility.
The NCAA announced before this year's Division II Championships that the 2009 national meet will be May 21-23 at Angelo State's Multipurpose Sports Complex.
