College: UTPB Soccer and Volleyball
Comments 0 | Recommend 0>> SOCCER -- Watts leads way: In Honolulu, Brandy Watts scored three goals on assists from three different teammates to lead the UTPB women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory against Chaminade on Saturday.
UTPB took a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute when Watts scored off an assist from T.J. Richter.
Watts iced the result in the 71st minute by scoring off an assist from Sarah Reinhardt.
Watts gave the Lady Falcons (1-1) a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when she scored off an assist from Katelin Benefiel, but Chaminade's Marissa Faye tied the game later in the first half.
The Lady Falcons, who lost to Hawaii Pacific in their season opener, close out their trip today by playing at BYU-Hawaii in Laie.
>> SOCCER -- Falcons win again: In Laie, Hawaii, the UTPB men's soccer team stayed undefeated on its season-opening road trip by beating BYU-Hawaii 2-0 on Saturday.
Justin Linthicum scored an unassisted goal for the Falcons (2-0) in the game's 31st minute, and Nickolas Kettlety added the second goal in the 71st minute.
UTPB enjoyed a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks as part of its offensive dominance, and goalkeeper Gage Peterson made four saves in his first shutout of the season.
The Falcons close out the Hawaiian trip today with a game against Chaminade in Honolulu.
>> VOLLEYBALL -- UTPB goes 1-3 in tourney; In Canyon, UTPB's volleyball team closed out action Saturday at the BritKare Lady Buff Classic by splitting a pair of matches.
The Lady Falcons (1-3) beat New Mexico Highlands 27-25, 26-19, 25-18 for their first win of the season Saturday, but they fell 24-26, 28-26, 25-18, 25-19 to Fort Hays State in their tournament finale.
Amithy Henry had nine kills, 11 digs and three aces against New Mexico Highlands. Sarah Munoz, Bailey Marcum and Krystal Polk all had four kills; Brianna Ausdenmoore had 22 assists and seven digs; and Ashley Alba had 10 digs.
Henry had 17 kills, 11 digs and two aces in the loss to Fort Hays. Polk had nine kills and Marcum had eight kills; Ausdenmoore had 41 assists and 14 digs; and Molly Atnip had six kills and 12 digs.
UTPB lost to host West Texas A&M and Fort Lewis College on Friday.
