College softball: Lady Chaps head to D-I national tournament
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Midland College will play Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at 10 a.m. Thursday in the first round of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Plant City, Fla.
Midland College (41-17) was seeded eighth in the 16-team field for the double-elimination tournament. The Lady Chaps beat Odessa College twice on May 4 to win the Region 5-West Tournament and to claim the berth in the national tournament.
Region 2 champion Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (36-11) was seeded ninth.
Region 14-23 winner San Jacinto-South and Region 5-East champion McLennan also qualified for the tournament.
No. 12-seed San Jacinto-South (37-15) will play No. 5 Tallahassee, Fla. (28-22) at 10 a.m. Thursday and No. 11 McLennan (39-17) will play No. 6 Southern Idaho (45-20) at 1 p.m. Thursday in the first round.
First-round winners will play again at 7 p.m. Thursday, while first-round losers will play at 5 p.m. Thursday.
The tournament continues Friday and Saturday.
Chipola, Fla., won the 2007 national title, but the Indians were eliminated by Tallahassee in the Region 8A Tournament.
