College golf: Wranglers lead state tourney

GRANBURY The Odessa College Wranglers hold a two-stroke lead over Paris Junior College after the first day of the NJCAA Texas State Championships.

Odessa College, which is  unbeaten in four events this spring, shot rounds of 293 and 297 for a 590 total after 36 holes, while Paris shot 300-292 at Harbor Lakes Golf Club.

Odessa College had three golfers in the top 10, led by Joseph Totah, who is one shot back of Lon Morris College's Jaime Garcia after shooting 71-72-143.

Matthew Nolasco, who is playing as a medalist for OC, shot back-to-back 74s and is tied for seventh at 148, while Jordan Jeffers (75-74) is tied for ninth one stroke back.

Other OC entries Monday were Landon Waters (71-80-151), Mark Penny (76-75-151) and Ryan Myers (79-76-155).

The state tournament concludes today with 18 holes. Scores from the state tournament will carry over for the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament, which is scheduled for April 21-22 at Hobbs, N.M.
