College briefs: OC roundup
Comments 0 | Recommend 0>> OC golfers win: In Aledo, on a day when the winds increased and blew out of the north, the Odessa College golf team handled the changing conditions better than the rest of the field Tuesday to capture The Wrangler at the Split Rail Links and Golf Club.
OC posted a 307 for a two-round total of 604 to beat Texas-Arlington by 11 shots. The Wranglers and the Mavericks were tied at 297 after the first round.
Ryan Myers of Odessa College carded a two-day total of 146 (72-74) to capture the medalist honors by two shots over Texas-Arlington’s Kevin Carrigan (73-75-148). Landon Waters of OC (71-80-151) was third, and Donald Dowie (74-79-153) of Texas-Arlington was fourth.
“That was a great score considering the conditions,” OC coach Paul Chavez said. “The wind increased from Monday when it was gusting to 40 mph, and it changed from the north, which made it much colder on everyone. Everyone did a great job.”
