College basketball: Odessa College roundup

HOBBS, N.M. The Odessa College women’s basketball team is no longer winless in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.
The Lady Wranglers, who trailed by three at halftime, ran the host New Mexico JC Lady Thunderbirds ragged in the final 10 minutes of the game to earn a 77-66 victory. There were just three New Mexico JC players on the floor at the end of the game because of foul trouble.
Whitney Goard led the Lady Wranglers (5-17 overall, 1-7 WJCAC) with 18 points. Diandra Marquez had 14, Jennifer Colli 13 and Kasia Suknarowska finished with 10 in the victory.
Brittney Foster scored a game-high 23 points to lead New Mexico JC, with Janisha Young adding 18 and Malorie Marshall 13 in the loss. Both Jarvis and Marshall fouled out.
Marshall gave the Lady Thunderbirds (3-20, 1-7) their final lead of the game, 51-50, on two free throws with just over nine minutes left to play. Goard, however, converted a bank shot on the Lady Wranglers’ next possession for a one-point lead.
Marquez then hit a three-pointer with 8:16 left to play to move the lead to four, 55-51 and Odessa College next led by less than three the rest of the night.

WRANGLERS HANG ON FOR ROAD VICTORY
HOBBS, N.M. Jamel Guyton hit six free throws in the final minute to help 13th-ranked Odessa College hold off New Mexico Junior College, 86-75, Thursday in a Western Junior College Athletic Conference game at New Mexico JC.
Guyton tied a season high with 31 points to lead five Wranglers in double figures. Delrico Lane and Devon McLendon had 13 points each, with Tommie Sykes adding 11 and Jesse Joseph 10 in the victory.
The Wranglers, 21-2 overall and 8-1 in conference, remain in first place in the conference standings with South Plains College. It was the 10th consecutive victory for Odessa College, which will host Howard College at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the OC Sports Center.
Odessa College led, 44-30, at halftime, but the host Thunderbirds used a three-point barrage on offense and a smothering full-court press on defense to pull back into the game, trailing 73-70 with less than three minutes to play.
