Junior College Basketball: Wranglers get key road win

CLARENDON Jamel Guyton scored a season-high 31 points Thursday while Carlos Radriguez and Damien Williams each recorded a double-double to lead the Odessa College Wranglers past the Clarendon College Bulldogs, 88-79, in Western Junior College Athletic Conference men’s basketball action.

The Wranglers (17-2 overall, 4-1 conference) remained a half-game out of first place in the WJCAC standings with their sixth consecutive victory. No. 4 South Plains College, No. 5 Midland College and Howard College all won Thursday to stay ahead of OC.

Guyton was 10-of-19 from the field, including 7-of-12 from 3-point range, as OC shot better than 50 percent from the floor (26-of-51 overall, 10-of-22 on 3-pointer). Rodriguez and Williams each had 10 points and 10 rebounds in helping the Wranglers post a 42-24 rebounding edge.

The Wranglers had two other players reach double figures, getting 17 points from Tommie Sykes and 14 from Delrico Lane.

Clarendon College (9-9, 0-5) was led by Maurice Abraham with 23 points with Chris Smith adding 15.

The Wranglers host Midland College at 7:30 p.m. next Monday at the OC Sports Center in their second straight home outing against a nationally ranked team. Odessa College handed SPC its first loss of the season, 67-65, on Monday.
