COLLEGE BASEBALL: UTPB swept
St. Mary’s pounded out 14 hits, including eight by the first three batters in the Rattlers’ lineup, to beat UTPB 5-3 Sunday and sweep the three-game Heartland Conference series at Roden Field.
Tyler Migl went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI for St. Mary’s (9-2 overall, 9-0 conference) while teammate Brandon Bates also doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Mike Briseno collected two hits and was the only UTPB player with a multi-hit game. The Falcons (1-8, 1-5) finished with five hits, none of which went for extra bases.
Travis Wilcox (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) in five innings of work.
Down 4-0 after five innings, UTPB plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth with two hits. The Falcons stranded a runner at second that inning and never had a runner in scoring position again.
