MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Wranglers lose in overtime

HOBBS, N.M. New Mexico Junior College defeated the Odessa College men’s basketball team 72-71 in overtime Thursday in a Western Junior College Athletic Conference game.

The Wranglers (21-5 overall, 6-4 WJCAC) fell into sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings with the loss.

Derrick Barden recorded a double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds) for the Wranglers and became the first Odessa College player to eclipse 1,000 points in a career since Larry Johnson in 1989. Barden now has 1,006 points for Odessa College.

Matthew Hunter led Odessa College, scoring 24 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

New Mexico Junior College (19-7, 7-3) moved into sole possession of third place with the victory.

Odessa College will return to the Permian Basin to face Howard College at 7:45 p.m. Monday at the OC Sports Center.
