WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Lady Wranglers play host to South Plains tonight

The Odessa College women’s basketball team is in second place in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and just half a game behind New Mexico Junior College. The Lady Wranglers, however, are still searching for steady play going into today’s 5:45 p.m. home game against South Plains College.

After beating Midland College 70-66 on Feb. 6, the Lady Wranglers trailed Frank Phillips College 22-15 at the half Thursday. Odessa College came back to beat Frank Phillips 53-39, keeping the Plainsmen winless in conference play.

“It’s been a struggle to find consistency — consistency in our effort, consistency in our attitude, consistency in our teamwork, and just general, overall consistency,” Odessa College coach Ara Baten said after Thursday’s game. “We take big steps forward at times and then we take a step back. That as a coach is real frustrating.”

The Lady Wranglers are 17-6 overall and 6-1 in the WJCAC while South Plains College sits in fourth in the conference standings with a 6-17 overall record and a 3-4 conference mark.

Odessa College emerged with a 78-71 overtime win when the Lady Wranglers and Lady Texans first met on Jan. 19 in Levelland.
