COLLEGE GOLF: Odessa College kicks off spring season with dual match

The Odessa College men’s golf team will kick off its spring season Saturday just as it has for the last seven years by playing McLennan Community College in a Ryder Cup-style competition. The event will take place at Split Rail Links & Golf Club in Aledo.

The site is significant this year because the course will play host to the National Junior College Athletic Association Texas State Championship in April. The Wranglers also will play the Wrangler Invitational at the course Feb. 20 and 21.

“It’s a demanding golf course so any time you get a couple looks at it before you play (helps),” Wrangler coach Paul Chavez said.

Odessa College and McLennan Community College each will have six golfers competing in the two-day event. There will be a two-man low ball competition Saturday and six singles matches Sunday.

Jamie Warman, Chris Bell, Antonio Morales, True Graves, Blayne Street and Ryder Skillern will be golfing for Odessa College, which has a 4-2 record against McLennan Community College in the annual event.

The Wranglers were ranked No. 2 in the country in the final NJCAA Division I poll during the fall season while McLennan checked in at No. 8.
