College golf: OC wins national preview tournament

NEWTON, KAN. Three Odessa College golfers finished in the top five at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I national championship preview tournament to lead the Wranglers to victory Tuesday. Odessa College finished with a 305 on the second day at Sand Creek Station Golf Club, giving the team a three-round total of 910 and an eight-stroke victory.

Wranglers sophomore and Permian graduate True Graves fired a 1-under-par 71 Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 223 and place second as an individual. Graves’ 71 tied for the best round of the day.

Freshman teammate Jamie Warman came in fourth with a 226 after firing a 75 Tuesday. Sophomore Antonio Morales finished one stroke and one place behind Warman after carding a 76 Tuesday.

Odessa College sophomore Chris Bell and freshman teammate Stuart McKechnie each shot an 83 on the final day.

Led by individual champion Richard James’ 221, New Mexico Junior College finished second with a 918.
