OC women fall again

BORGER Katiya Jackson scored 23 points and Rakena Williams added 17 Thursday as the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen pulled away Thursday to beat the Odessa College Lady Wranglers 68-52 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference women’s basketball action.

The Lady Wranglers (4-17 overall, 0-6 WJCAC) were led by Jennifer Colli with 12 points and Diandra Marquez with 11.

Frank Phillips (16-4, 3-3) led 15-11 with less eight minutes remaining in the first half before going on a 15-4 run to open up a 15-point lead. Down 32-19 at halftime, OC opened the second half with an 8-0 run to get within five, but the Lady Plainsmen responded with a 13-2 surge to push the margin back to double digits.

The Lady Wranglers finished with a 74-51 rebounding edge as both teams struggled with their shooting (OC was 16-58 from the field and 18-35 at the line; FPC was 19-53 from the field and 25-37 at the line). The Lady Plainsmen made up for that with pressure defense that forced OC into 32 turnovers.
