College basketball: Lady Falcons start cold, drop opener

STEPHENVILLE An ice-cold shooting performance in the first half Tuesday doomed the UTPB women’s basketball team to a 64-38 loss to fellow NCAA Division II member Tarleton State in the season opener for both teams.

UTPB made just four of 18 field goals in the opening 20 minutes while falling behind 39-14 before a crowd of 1,250 at Wisdom Gym.

The Lady Falcons were led by 12 points and four rebounds by Miesha Blackshear while Callie Norris added six points and five rebounds.

Brittnie Haley had 11 points and 13 rebounds to pace Tarleton State, with JoAnne Jones and Tara Towns scoring 13 points apiece.
