DALLAS Former Permian football coach Tam Hollingshead will join the SMU athletic department as director of high school relations, the university announced this week.

Hollingshead, who spent the past three seasons building a program from scratch at Rockwall Heath High School, was one of nine additions to the staff of new SMU coach June Jones.

An SMU graduate, Hollingshead played on two state-championship teams and earned all-state honors at Brownwood before lettering for the Mustangs in 1975.

Hollingshead was 43-4-2 in four seasons (1990-93) as head coach at Permian, guiding the Panthers to the 1991 Class 5A state championship. He also spent two seasons as head coach at Temple before going to Heath when the school opened in 2005.

He left Permian to become an assistant at Texas A&M, helping the Aggies to six bowl appearances and the 1998 Big 12 championship over nine seasons.
