UTPB (10-8 overall) swept Angelo State 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 on Sept. 9 at the Falcon Dome.

Amithy Henry had 15 kills and freshman Bailey Marcum, a Monahans graduate, had nine kills in for UTPB in the first match against Angelo State.

Angelo State (11-7) beat Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, and the Belles have gone 7-3 since the first match against UTPB.

>> Football -- Sul Ross player honored: Sul Ross State cornerback Johnnie Williams has been named the American Southwest Conference's defensive player of the week after helping the Lobos shut out Howard Payne 17-0 on Saturday in Alpine.

Williams, a junior from Hempstead, had six solo tackles - including two for losses - and made an interception that set up a touchdown for Sul Ross.

Sul Ross (2-2 overall, 1-1 conference) posted its first shutout since 1997.

Sul Ross is off this week, but the Lobos will play Texas Lutheran in an ASC game at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 in Seguin.
