COLLEGE BASEBALL: UTPB returns to diamond
The UTPB baseball team will try to win for the first time in two weeks when it hosts St. Mary’s for a Heartland Conference doubleheader at noon today at Roden Field. The third game of the series, which was pushed back because of inclement weather, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Falcons (1-5 overall, 1-2 conference), whose lone win was a 4-0 shutout against Texas A&M International on Feb. 4, have lost three games in a row while being outscored 19-1. Center fielder Mike Briseno has driven in four of UTPB’s 10 runs this season, and Travis Wilcox has pitched nine scoreless innings.
St. Mary’s, which is come off a 5-2, nonconference loss against Incarnate Word on Tuesday, has allowed only 10 runs in six conference games.
