Football: Defensive end Allen signs with Packers

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Odessa Roughnecks on Tuesday announced that defensive end Rodney Allen has signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League.

Allen will report immediately to the team's preseason training camp.

Allen, who played at the University of Kansas, recorded seven sacks in helping Odessa reach the Intense Football League semifinals. He finished with 23.5 tackles, including 13.5 tackles for a loss, this season.

"I am very proud of Rodney and his accomplishment," Odessa coach Chris Williams said in a release from the team. "He is a tremendous football player but is also an excellent young man who is very deserving of this opportunity."

Allen was signed after Green Bay suffered injuries during its 20-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Monday night.
