Boxing: Alday has to settle to silver

MOBILE, ALA. Odessa boxer Joey Alday Jr. made the championship bout at 138 pounds at the Junior Olympics, but he met a quicker opponent in Friday’s title match, losing 28-10 to Julian Rodriguez of Paterson, N.M.

Alday Jr., who lost his first-round bout at the same tournament last year, comes back to the Permian Basin with the silver medal.

Rodriguez was making his second consecutive trip to a championship bout, having lost the 125-pound final (7-6 on a tiebreaker) last year to George Nacerio of East Haven, Conn.
