Obituaries Policy

OA Online’s obituary section includes paid obituaries, as well as death notices.

Death notices are published free of charge for people who live or who previously lived in the Odessa American’s 21-county circulation area. The newspaper also publishes death notices of spouses, parents, grandparents, children or siblings who live outside the circulation area. Death notices are subject to limits on length and content.

Information about death notices and obituaries, including rates, is available by calling 432-333-7770 or 800-375-4661 ext. 770. To submit an obit photo via e-mail. You may e-mail it directly to obits@link.freedom.com.

For families who desire a more complete story, a full obituary is available for a nominal charge and may include a photo. Obituaries are paid advertisements, and generally may include any information the family thinks appropriate. Such information may include tributes, a detailed life history, memorials, visitation times, names of pallbearers and honorary pallbearers, etc.

Information for death notices and obituaries will be accepted only from an established funeral home, or must be confirmed by an established funeral home.
