Grab a lawn chair and head over to Noel Heritage Park to chill out with some cool music for the Odessa Council for the Arts & Humanities and Main Street Odessa’s Hot Summer Nights with Cool Music concert series.
“The purpose is to provide an opportunity for people to hear different kinds of music in a comfortable setting at no cost,” Odessa Council for the Arts & Humanities Executive Director Carla Bryant said. “This started years ago in the 1980s and they would have 25 to 30 people at a concert. By the time we took it over in 2005, it had developed into a pretty good concert series.”
The series has steadily grown since 2005, and typically they see about 150 people at each concert, Main Street Odessa Vice President Randy Ham said.
“The biggest change is we have more contemporary music,” Ham said. “I’m excited about Insufficient Funds. They’re classic rock, and it’s all bankers from the area, but I’m excited for all of the bands. There’s something here for everybody.”
The series will feature eight concerts with everything from bluegrass and polka to classic rock and R&B. The next concert will be Danny Santos & the Bluegrass Vatos May 31. The concert series will also feature country music from North 40 and Jazz from Corner Pocket.
The series will end July 26 with a Polka concert from Brave Combo.
