Ricardo Serrato never thought he’d get the chance to pick up Sharon Osbourne.
But that’s just what the Odessan did when he won $10,000 with Osbourne’s help on a celebrity edition of “The Price Is Right” airing Wednesday.
“It was pretty amazing,” Ricardo Serrato, 39, said. “It was exciting just being there because I watched it as a kid growing up and it was my third time there but my first time being picked.”
Serrato said he was so excited while filming the show Feb. 5 that he did what felt natural — he picked up famed rocker Ozzy Osbourne’s wife and spun her around three times.
“We were both excited because I also won $10,000 toward her charity (The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program),” Serrato said. “She wasn’t mad at all; she just thanked me and told me she had a lot of fun. She was very helpful and we were working as a team.”
“I was excited because the odds are definitely against you to get picked and we had a rough year,” Serrato’s wife, Cecilia Serrato, 38, said.
That rough year she was speaking of happened when Ricardo was hit by a truck while riding his bicycle Oct. 31 forcing him to take two months off work.
“I’m very thankful for having this opportunity,” Ricardo Serrato said. “I had a great time.”
“He gave a shout-out to Odessa and our (four) kids,” Cecilia Serratos said. “He was like an inch away from winning the $1 to get into the showcase but it stayed on 5 cents and he didn’t get into the showcase.”
They will get to keep about $9,200 cash after paying California’s 7 percent state tax on the money, Cecilia Serrato said.
