[NR] Rehab work scheduled for Interstate 20
Work targets section east of Stanton to Howard County line
STANTON Jones Brothers Dirt and Paving Contractors Inc. plans to start work east of Stanton the week of Dec. 12 on a project that will refurbish 3.7 miles of Interstate 20.
Jones Brothers will remove and replace the top layer of asphalt in the driving and passing lanes of Interstate 20. Barricades are expected to be put in place Monday and actual work is expected to begin Wednesday, weather permitting. The $1,790,694.02 contract should take less than two months to complete.
The work zone, which ends at the Howard County line, will have single lane closures as work progresses. There are no exit or entrance ramps in the work zone, so access to Interstate 20 will not be restricted at any time. Traffic is scheduled to flow in both directions on Interstate 20 for the duration of the project.
The speed limit in the work zone will be 60 miles per hour. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone. The two major causes of work zone accidents are unsafe speeds and following too closely. In fact, rear-end collisions are the most common accidents in work zones.
Please obey all warning signs and any flag crew members in the area. Keep plenty of distance between your vehicle and the workers and equipment in the work zone.
