Kermit police chief son arrested

WINKLER COUNTY The son of Kermit Police Chief Scott Williams was in jail Tuesday after being arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault of a juvenile.

Justin Scott Williams, 17, was being held at the Winkler County Jail on bonds totaling $50,000.

Texas Ranger Phillip Breeding said he investigated the case at the request of the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office. Breeding said the supposed crime happened within city limits, but the victim reported the crime to the sheriff’s office.

Breeding said the sheriff’s office was capable of handling the case but asked Breeding to do the investigation because of the office’s local relationship with the Kermit Police Department.

Sheriff Robert Roberts was not available Tuesday to comment.

According to the arrest affidavit, Williams used a knife to kidnap a juvenile female and forced her to have sex with him, placing her in fear for her life and body during the supposed act. Breeding said the two were not in any kind of dating relationship. He said the investigation was ongoing.

Acting District Attorney Scott Tidwell said as a 17-year-old, Williams was an adult, not a juvenile.

Chief Williams was not available for comment Tuesday.
